Social networking.

Social networking began with a site called myspace in the early 2000's and then came facebook created by Mark Zuckerberg in october of 2003 after a late night of drinking in his Harvard dorm room for fun. If you have seen the movie "The Social Network" you know the story. He created the website with the intention of connecting college campus's with each other. With the evolution of Facebook it became more and more popular. After Facebook came Twitter, all of these social networking websites were created with the intention of connecting old friends, finding new people and staying in touch with family. With the creators not knowing what these websites would become they have started a lot of controversy. Internet bullying has become one of the main reasons for teens committing suicide. People think it is okay to judge, bully and criticize others behind the protection of a keyboard and it is really sad. In my opinion the internet has it's pros and cons. There are some things that people use and create that are negative for other users to see and use. Privacy is also important online and it has become scary for some users to even use certain websites due to the amount of information that website is asking them for. I don't mind the internet if something asks me for information I don't feel comfortable giving I just forget the website. Some things could change like the way websites are created by asking too much information and the websites creator needs a way to prove that the website is not a scam. Other than that the internet is alright in my book.

Step by step guide to get dressed for hockey.

- Step one: Find a spot in the locker room. After arriving to the rink, If you need to sharpen your skates take them to the pro-shop before you start the dressing process.

-Step two: After taking your casual or game day clothing off, find your jock strap and put it on along with warm socks, or none at all if you prefer it.

-Step three: Put on your shin pads along with your game socks, use the straps on the shin pads to secure them, then use the velcro on your jock strap to secure your socks, along with clear tape around your shin pads.

-Step four: Next find your pants, they look like a big pare of padded shorts, slide them on over your shin pads and pull them up to below your belly button then tighten them with the proper straps and ties.

-Step five: Now put on your skates, tying them tight is the best way to go, you start tightening them towards your toe, pulling up on the laces then moving down to the next two and so on until you tie them like a pare of shoes. If you have newer advanced skates they might include pumps, to pump the cushion in your skate to form around the heel of your foot which makes it more comfortable.

-Step six: Now this would be the time after tying your skates to tape your stick if needed. Your choice in stick is very important, the new technology and materials the brands are using for their sticks to make them light, and easy to use. Carbon fiber is the newest material used for sticks today and they seem to be doing very well. To tape your stick start by removing the previous tape if needed. Find your tape and start at either end of the blade on your stick. Tape it layer by layer overlapping each pass by half of the width of the piece of tape.

-Step seven: After taping your stick you're ready to move to upper body. If you prefer to wear an under armor shirt underneath your gear you can start with that, then put your chest protector on and using the velcro straps to secure it.

-Step eight: Now put your elbow pads on, read the tag on the inside of them to know what one goes on what elbow. Then undo the straps to make it easy to put on and slide it in like a glove and tighten each one to your preferred tightness.

-Step nine: Next throw on your jersey just like a regular shirt.

-Step ten: Apply your neck guard to a nice snug fit.

-Step eleven: Finally put in your mouth guard and put your helmet on and strap it up, your helmet is very important, the newer helmets are very advanced with preventing concussions with the new technology. Your chin strap goes under your chin horizontally. The straps on your cage go straight back on the buttons just behind your ears.

-Step twelve: Go have fun and play hard!

One thing every citizen must know how to do technology wise is to use a computer and its basic applications. The technology era is growing and getting more advanced people need to know how to use computers because everything is being used on them like banking, news etc. Another thing would be automobiles, the car industry is including nothing but new technology in cars these days. They are having touch screens with numerous things that even I don't know about yet. 

A group of people that would need to understand this type of technology is the generation before us. They are all new to the technology and we have been growing up with it so we understand it already. It seems to be difficult for parents and grandparents to use computers and phones with the new technology. Another group of people who should understand how to use technology in cars is our generation. I believe that if we grow up with new technology in vehicles that we will be very distracted while driving. Parents and grandparents are not very familiar with the technology so they don't bother to use it while driving. Kids who have technology in their cars will be easily distracted by it and could cause a negative affect. 

I may have blogged about this topic before, but I feel it is necessary to discuss it once more. The way my generation acts has come to disgust me even more. The social media life has ruined everything bright we had planned for us. It is really sad, and a disgrace. Girls don't stop complaining until they get there five dollar Starbucks coffee. Young men on a social media website called vine feel it is necessary to "grind" or dry hump the ground and post a video of it. It has come to a conclusion that there are no morals left in my generation. Another example: teenagers making their parents buy them a brand new car and being unappreciative of it. Instead they should be working for what they want, instead of complaining about not having enough. My generation is ungrateful for what they have been blessed with and don't realize that they don't need more, they need to give back more. Stop complaining, work for something in your life. Be a leader, not a follower. It has really caught my eye these days of what we've become. It really hits you hard and makes you realize that a change is needed.

Just like Alex is writing on my blog, I will write about sports on here as well. The sports world has definitely changed. Changes in almost every sport. 20 years ago, games like football and basketball were completely different. Dirtier games, actually. Football was insane, full of hard hits that were fine with the league, but now football is all about safety. Goodell is ruining football. 20 years ago, basketball players actually played defense. The argument of "who is better," LeBron James or Michael Jordan, the answer is so simple. Basketball players back then actually played defense and Jordan still put up amazing stats, while James plays against what are virtually mannequins. Nobody plays defense anymore. Every game needs to go back to the way it was in the 80's and 90's.

Cardale Jones

College students who are playing a sport for their school are required to do a lot of extra work. They are still required to attend classes, and keep their grades up. They can complain but they do not need to make a fool of themselves like Ohio State back up quarter back Cardale Jones did who decided to make a tweet to all of his followers and the rest of twitter that stated “Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS” simply making a fool of himself. His tweet has made him look like a fool and he has been used as a teaching point at Ole Miss University and has been used in textbooks as well. There was a class created at Ole Miss called the "Ole Miss Experience" which is a class for freshman for their transition from high school to college. Basically it is a class to teach students to be smart on social media websites. In my opinion Cardale Jones is not the smartest football player out there, yes you can complain about classes but you simply do not have to share it on a social media website and make a fool of yourself. He is now being used as a joke to a whole college course at another school. Twitter is a very sensitive social media website and it can ruin peoples lives. Once you send something it doesn't get deleted it stays on the internet forever and can be accessed by the click of a button. The smartest thing to do to your twitter page if you were Cardale Jones would be to set your account on private, this still does not allow you to tweet incompetent or negative things it just allows you to have only your selection of followers see what you tweet. Therefore you do not have to have people you don't want scrolling through your tweets and your personal information. Still you should always be careful about what you tweet because again it does not get removed from the internet.

Traveling

To travel the world is in my future. I've wanted to travel to every country in the world since I was about six years old. When I used to watch TV all of the places movies were filmed at made me want to visit these locations. It made me so excited to grow up and made me lose track of what I actually wanted to do in life. My goal as of right now is when I graduate from high school to go back packing in Europe for a year or two. I want to meet new people and learn about foreign cultures and lifestyles. I think it would be a life changing experience because people in America tend to take too many things for granted and it would be interesting to see how much we do take things for granted. Also I would like to travel to other countries and do new things out of the ordinary. I want to try things like sky diving (not really out of the ordinary) or things like climbing a peak of a mountain with a tribe in the Himalayas. One movie that really inspired me was The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, it was about a worker for Time magazine and he travels to 14 different countries searching for one photographer and his life changes on his long journey around the world. This lifestyle would encourage my dream of being a photojournalist. Places like Fiji, Jamaica or Italy all have perfect characteristics for a photographer. I plan to continue in the dream of mine and I hope it comes true for I believe it will open my mind and change the way I live my life.

When you go to school you have one reason, just to get a piece of paper after the long gruesome 12 years all you receive is a piece of paper. It should not come down to just getting a piece of paper and sending you into the real world. When you graduate from high school most of us don't have a clue as to what we want to be in life and we need help figuring it out. I think college is important, but why waste the time trying to find out things you want to do in college when you could just spend a little time exploring before college and try out different careers. When people finally make a decision on what they would like to be they would have a little bit more hands-on experience rather than just reading about it in a text book and doing assignments on it. When I go to college I plan on going to Central Michigan University and get a degree in communications. I've already practiced my career I would like to follow which is photojournalism, which would require me to travel the world while taking photographs and writing about what I feel and see. I've always enjoyed photography and I love to travel so it seems like the perfect job. After getting a degree (another piece of paper that takes me years to receive) I plan to join the Coast Guard and practice photography and maybe be a pilot. All of these plans require you to go to twelve years of school, and countless more after that which nobody enjoys doing but I do admit, it's for the best.  After I have been in the Coast Guard for a while then my hopes are to get a job with National Geographic and travel to every country in the world.

Since I was little my only dream that I still have to this day is traveling the world still to this day I have that same dream and I plan to do it after I graduate college. If only there was a degree for traveling the world and getting payed for it I would be one happy camper.

Social Networks

Social networking has taken control of our generation. Kids would rather check twitter than do their homework. It is causing our generation to be ignorant, judgmental and irresponsible. Everyone is snapchatting instead of calling or meeting up. Skyping instead of going on dates. Texting at the dinner table. It has gotten so bad that social media has even ruined peoples lives. People are hacking, just to hurt people, kids are being bullied by someone behind a computer screen or a cell phone. It makes you think that you don't want to be a part of this generation or you simply just want to change it. It is possible to change our generation by not just basing your day off how many likes you get on your instagram picture, or by actually having a conversation with someone instead of snapchatting someone in the same room as you. Prince EA has the idea to change our generation from being social media addicts to regular common people who aren't going crazy over twitter followers, instagram likes and facebook friends. His idea simply includes getting rid of your social media accounts. It will make a difference. Also not just texting people all day, get out and meet up with them face to face. It's not to late to change our generation. Get out meet new people maybe try writing a letter to someone to keep your intelligence up instead of staring at a screen all day. It is said that the average person spends five hours a day watching television which is awful for you, losing braincells and simply being lazy. I challenge you to not use your phone for one week. It will be hard but it can be done. I have done it. It will make a difference and you will realize it as well. Your social media life is not as important as you think it is and you can live with out it. 

Summer

The month of June is often filled with excitement. It's the last couple weeks of school and everyone knows the best time of year is coming. For seniors we are done a month before which is one of the best benefits of being a senior. So, It's early May and we are ready to get out. We have our caps and gowns ready in our bedrooms, and we're ready for the graduation parties. Coming to school is pointless to us, we just sit there and enjoy our last couple days of high school. It's May 21st, barley any sleep at all we wake up ready to graduate. We come to school get our cap and gowns ready and we are basically done with high school forever. We attend the senior walk and enjoy the laughs, cries and the long heart-felt hugs with our dear underclassmen friends, it's sad but it is apart of life. We exit the school and we meet our parents and we cry our eyes out and hug our parents and of course thank them for getting you through twelve years of school. Then we leave this place for good, not ever having to come back on our own terms, free at last.
Half way into summer and the dorm room shopping is almost complete and we have our plans for our room-mates and we are ready to go. As we prepare we attend as many graduation parties as possible to get a chance to see our good friends for the last time in a long time. We do as many fun activities with our close friends as we can and we promise we are never going to split up but in the back of our minds we know that it will happen, for we will meet new people and gain new friends with the same similarities as you and you will become close with new people. Yet you come back to visit your old friends, it's not the same as it was. You both know and you miss how it used to be, you start to miss high school, you realize it's apart of life. This is growing up, you're in college now and living on your own with new people you don't know. Every chance you get you come home to visit your parents and you've never been more happy to come home to your own house with your parents and eat good food that isn't a cheap TV dinner tray. This is college and growing up, you're ready to take on the challenge and nothing will get in your way, at least I hope.

Hockey season

This year I am looking forward to hockey season. It is the best time of year for us hockey players. It makes the school year go by much faster and helps us enjoy the winter seasons as a team. Each day of the week we skate as a team and every couple days we have an important game that will dictate how good we do in the future as a team. Every day we skate we improve as a team and we also bond together more and more every day. We do everything together and it never fails to bore us. The night before every game we have a team dinner and we all bond extremely well together at one of our houses. Game days are the best, we get to wear our nicest suits and we look classy and fresh, it's a riot. After school it's straight to the rink and all business. No joking around, no giggles and no talking about anything except hockey. We get to the rink an hour and a half before puck drop and we get in our "zones" we stretch and warm up for almost an hour then mentally prepare ourselves before the game. If we play during the winter season well enough we get to play in the state championship game at Compuware arena, home of the Plymouth Whalers.  That was the greatest experience of my life, last year. It is a long and challenging journey to make it to that game. First it starts with playing 16 games of playoffs and winning each one. Every game gets harder and harder to win. Last year, our hardest game was against Novi. They were ranked 2nd in the state and were expected to beat us. We came to the rink more serious then ever and were more then ready to play. The game was intense, Novi scored first and had the lead majority of the game. But in the 3rd period, one of our players scored to tie the game. That moment was so surreal and exciting. The game went into two overtimes and we scored late in the second to win the regional championship and go to Compuware. The celebrations that moment were unforgettable, being apart of such an elite team with amazing brothers as teammates. I will never forget playing high school hockey, it will be one of my most missed parts of high school and will always hold a spot in my heart.

Two of the projects I just did were a presentation about how to use google accounts, and the other was a survey about sports. I tried my best to inform people how to use google the best I could. The survey was just questions to people taking it about their personal opinion.

Pheed, a newer social media website that is a combination of twitter and instagram. With more advancements like live broadcasting, and audio tracks. A lot like twitter it is live posts but you can express yourself in many different ways.

Cyber safety

Some things I learned about cyber safety is that some colleges will look at your social media pages and if you have things you're not proud of then it will not have a good outcome. Also the passwords you pick are also important because hackers can learn simple passwords by just learning about you. It is important not to store valuable things about you on your computer or phone. Finally it is important to know who to contact if you think you might be a victim of fraud or ID theft.

Hockey

Hockey is a very serious sport. It can be very violent, exciting and interesting to watch. Hockey is also an exciting game to play, I would know. I've been playing hockey for 13 years and it never gets old. The excitement in hockey comes from the violent checking (hitting) other players, the skill level of some of the players which makes the game fun to watch and play, and finally the high speed skating of all the players during a game.

     

There is also a tremendous brotherhood between teammates that could never be broken. Every day you go to the rink which hockey players like to call "their second home" and they skate together and get better as a team. This video was during the NHL lockout during the 2012 season, the owners of the hockey teams were complaining about their salary and demanded more money which would leave the players with less pay then they deserved, the 2012 season was very emotional and it led to a large revolution of hockey fans demanding their desired hockey season back and it was successful.  

When a team comes to the rink, it's basically like coming to work. Every hockey player who plays knows that it is time for work and they need to be mentally and physically prepared for "battle". 

 The reason why hockey is such an exciting sport is because of the different types of players. For example there are grinders who are physical and get the puck in the scrum, there are goons who are mostly used for hitting and fighting dangerous opponents, there are snipers who are able to shoot very accurately and score from long distances, and danglers who are in my opinion the most skilled players who have the moves to get through numerous players and make a play. The game of hockey is best enjoyed during the playoffs, and the prized Lord Stanley's Cup is hoisted by the winning teams captain and passed along through the team. Intro about me

An introduction about me would be that I am an outgoing guy who is a genuinely kind person. I enjoy spending time with family and friends along with playing hockey in my spare time for the varsity team. On the weekends I have a part-time job at Dunham Hills Golf course in the Grille room, I really enjoy cooking and I plan to continue with it in college. Next year after I graduate I plan to go to Central Michigan University and get a degree in photojournalism and possibly culinary.
